A memorial service with military honors for
Micheal Ray “Mike” Bateman was held at
2 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from the Middle Tennessee
Veteran’s Cemetery on McCrory Lane, Nashville. Mr. Bateman
died Friday December 2, 2011 at the Trauma Center of Vanderbilt
Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile
accident.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mike was the son
of the late Melvin Porter Bateman, Sr. and Lena Tidwell Bateman.
He was a 1964 graduate of the former Dickson High School.
Mike served his country during the Vietnam War with service in
the United States Army but was attached to a U. S. Marine unit
in the DMZ. He was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation
and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm
Device. After his military service, he attended Middle
Tennessee State University and received his bachelor’s degree in
1973. As a certified public accountant he retired as a
partner in the former CPA firm, Bateman, Page, and Robinson.
Mike was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4641 in Dickson and
also the local chapter of the
Disabled American Veterans. He attended First Baptist
Church in Dickson.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ramsey
“Pat” Bateman, Burns; two sons, Jeremy Bateman and his wife
Shauna, and Jared M. Bateman, all of Memphis; one daughter
Jennifer Bateman Patrick and her husband, Joseph, Spring Hill,
TN; one granddaughter, Quinn Bateman; a brother, Bill Bateman
and his wife, Wadie of Ohio; two sisters Marie Loggins, Dickson,
and Eulene Daves of Texas; several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin P. Bateman, Jr.,
Jesse “Jack” Bateman, and Neil Bateman and by one sister, Reba
Hood.
