2ND BATTALON 94TH ARTILLERY
‘THE FIRE MISSION’
War is
Hell in VietnamThe soldiers rest in the morning calm
This is the way the story began
Many were boys now each is a man
Their faces were twisted
In anger not fear
The time of the fire mission
Was drawing near
Confidence and bravery
Showed in their voice
Victory or death
Was their choice
Just as the lines
Were ready to burst
The word came down
"BATTERY ADJUST"!
Through the still of the dawn
The only sound
Was the slam of the breech block
And a charge three round shot away
Soon Charlie would know eight seconds
To splash and then all Hell would blow
As the last of the rounds were charged and seated
The AO reported the VC had been defeated
